Custom Interconnects
When an off-the-shelf connector does not fit the application, Rampart engineers a solution around the electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements.
Built around the requirement, not around a catalog number.
Custom interconnect requirements can involve unusual envelopes, force characteristics, conductor arrangements, impedance, pressure, materials, geometry or environmental conditions. Rampart develops connector solutions around those application-specific constraints.
From specialized sensors to rugged disconnect systems.
Rampart’s custom work spans subsea, oil and gas, aerospace, medical and other harsh-environment applications.
The examples below show solutions developed for unique electrical, packaging, sealing and mechanical requirements.
Different problem. Different connector.
Custom projects can combine specialized mechanical, electrical and environmental requirements within a purpose-built interconnect architecture.
Custom mating force, envelope, geometry, blind engagement and misalignment capability.
Specialized conductor layouts, communication paths, impedance and signal requirements.
Hermetic sealing, high pressure, high temperature and demanding service conditions.
Lightweight PEEK architectures, non-magnetic assemblies and application-specific materials.
Examples engineered for real applications.
These examples highlight the range of electrical, mechanical and environmental challenges addressed through custom Rampart interconnect designs.
Variable Separation Force Connector
A specialized disconnect architecture allowing the separation force to be engineered around the application.
- Customer specifies positive, zero or negative force.
- Reliable in-flight electrical disconnect.
- Tapered mating eliminates binding.
- Blind engagement accommodates linear and angular misalignment.
Coaxial / RF – Custom
Custom RF interconnect developed around a customer-issued cable and strict packaging requirements.
- Customer-issued cable.

Autoclavable Connector
Developed when customer supply-chain disruption prevented an industry-standard product from being delivered to the end user.
- Customer supply chain was disrupted by long lead times.
- Rampart delivered the solution in 12 weeks.
- Customer input was incorporated into improvements.
Circular Plastic Flange Mount Receptacle
An industry-standard style that became unavailable because of supply-chain issues.
- Rampart delivered the required solution on time.

Hermetic Electrical Impedance Sensor
Sensor solution designed to evaluate fluids under demanding environmental conditions.
- Used to determine liquid response under high pressure and/or temperature.
- Common in environmental monitoring applications.
- Detects the presence and concentration of contaminants within a fluid.
Rectangular Micro-Miniature Plug & Receptacle
Compact interconnect architecture developed around packaging and weight requirements.
- Robust PEEK insulator.
- Lightweight construction.
- Rapid development and delivery.
- Hermetic configuration available upon request.
Multi-Conductor Mated Hermetic Set
Custom packaged mated multi-conductor hermetic connector system developed for a specialized material requirement.
- Custom packaged mated connector set.
- Multi-conductor hermetic architecture.
- Special requirement for non-magnetic construction.
Requirements first.
Custom connector development starts with what the application needs to accomplish, then works backward into contact architecture, materials, geometry, sealing and mechanical behavior.
Even the disconnect force can be engineered.
The Variable Separation Force Connector demonstrates the advantage of starting with the application rather than adapting an existing connector.
The customer can specify positive, zero or negative separation force, while tapered mating and tolerance for angular or linear misalignment support reliable blind engagement.
Discuss Your RequirementFrom requirement to connector.
A custom interconnect project can begin with a performance requirement, an existing interface, a customer cable or a packaging constraint.
Establish the electrical, mechanical, environmental and packaging requirements.
Develop the connector architecture, materials, sealing strategy and interface.
Produce the custom components using Rampart’s vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities.
Move from development into qualification, production and ongoing supply support.
